The Root of Real Healing

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine is a patient-first, science-backed approach that asks why illness happens, not just what it is.

We go beyond the surface by asking:

  • Why are you struggling with fatigue that won’t go away?

  • Why do your gut issues persist despite medication or dietary changes?

  • Why are your hormones imbalanced, or your metabolism slowing down?

At Borealis Functional Medicine, we look at the full picture—biology, genetics, lifestyle, environment, and mental well-being—to find the root causes of conditions like hormonal imbalances, chronic fatigue, digestive disorders, autoimmune conditions, and metabolic dysfunction.

With advanced testing, personalized care plans, and natural, evidence-based therapies, we guide you toward lasting transformation—not temporary fixes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Functional Medicine different from Primary Care?

Primary care is the first point of contact for individuals within a healthcare system. It encompasses preventive care, treatment of common illnesses, and coordination of specialized care when needed. Primary care providers, often general practitioners, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants, establish long-term relationships with patients, becoming familiar with their medical history and tailoring care to their individual needs.

What is the Role of Functional Medicine in your Care Team?

As a Functional Medicine doctor I’m interested in collaborating with your PCP as well as any specialist you may be seeing such as cardiologist, endocrinologist, oncologist etc. As a nephrologist, I’m here to support you along with your primary nephrologist in the health and care of your kidneys. Open communication leads to better overall comprehensive care.

Can I See you in Person?

At this time I provide telemedicine appointments only for my Functional Medicine patients.

Do you take Insurance?

No. Functional medicine  involves longer appointment times and more personalized care, which may not be financially viable under insurance models that prioritize efficiency and high patient volume.  Insurance companies prioritize cost reduction and a traditional medical model, which may not cover the specialized testing, longer appointment times, and holistic treatments often employed in functional medicine.
